Wharf Hotels is committed to operating all of its properties with a social and environmentally responsible approach.
Engaged with the local communities, all of its hotels participate in charity organisations, volunteer programmes and proactive participation in activities organised by social enterprises, in order for Guests and Associates to contribute to advancing local communities. Responsibility extends beyond Guests and Associates to the societies in which the hotels operate, and the hotels strive to integrate the hotel’s operations in to the life of the local community in a way that enriches all parties. Where available, locally produced organic products are sourced.
Project WeCan is a business-in-community programme that Wharf Hotels actively collaborates with, designed to offer care and opportunities for the less-privileged students in Hong Kong. Project WeCan was established as an open platform for business sponsors to work closely with schools through financial commitment and/or volunteering support for the benefit of their students who lack support and resources. The Programme began in 2011 with 11 secondary schools. Currently, there are 14 schools matched with 14 business sponsors through Project WeCan.
As champions of sustainable tourism, Wharf Hotels supports EarthCheck’s initiative to scientifically benchmark, certify and advise on travel and tourism. Helping businesses and communities to deliver clean, safe and healthy destinations for travellers to visit, all Niccolo and Marco Polo Hotels monitor and aim to comply with EarthCheck’s stringent criteria in order to achieve energy efficiency, power savings, carbon footprint reduction, waste management and more. Marco Polo Hongkong Hotel’s commitment to making a sustainable impact on our environment and communities was recognised when the hotel garnered Bronze Certification by EarthCheck in July 2017.
