LUOJIA TEMPLE: A TEMPLE RISING FROM THE SEA, WITH THE SEA UNFOLDING BEFORE IT

Luojia Temple is situated on Gongyu Island, along the eastern shore of Shishi’s Golden Coast in Quanzhou. Surrounded by the sea on three sides, it is backed by Baogai Mountain to the north-west and faces the Taiwan Strait to the south-east.

As the tide rises, seawater submerges the bridge’s foundations, making the entire temple appear to float on the azure waves. Its crimson walls and golden roof tiles create a striking contrast with the vast blue ocean, earning it the enduring titles of “Pengdao Buddhist Land” and “the Temple Floating on the Sea”.
