Hankow Historical Preservation District: Step Back into the Bustling Life of the 1920s

Hankow Historical Preservation District

The Hankow Historical Preservation District, spanning 6.02 square kilometres, is Wuhan’s largest historic neighbourhood. Enclosed by Yanjiang Avenue, Jianghan Road, Jinghan Avenue, and Huangpu Street, it preserves 122 historic buildings and 27 Lifen alleys, reflecting architectural styles from Neoclassical to Baroque. Walking its streets evokes the 1920s, with restored architecture, bustling markets, and a fusion of Eastern and Western influences. Celebrated as a living museum, the district captures Hankow’s mercantile history, urban culture, and the architectural elegance of early 20th-century daily life.
