Soong Ching-ling's Former Residence in Hankou: Eight Months at 162 Yanjiang Avenue

Built in 1896, this nationally protected heritage site was Soong Ching-ling's residence in Wuhan from late 1926 to mid-1927. During her time here, she helped establish the Wuhan National Government and issued the “Telegram Denouncing Chiang Kai-shek”. Though her stay lasted only eight months, it marked one of the most stirring chapters in the life of this “national treasure”.

As visitors step onto the wooden staircase, the turbulent years of the Great Revolution seem to awaken amid the apricot-yellow light and shadow. The reception room, study room and bedroom have been restored to their original appearance, while the mahogany five-drawer chest and dressing table remain in silent repose, just as they once were.
