Qingshui Temple: Where Planes Sweep Low Over an Ancient Shrine

Qingshui Temple

Xiamen Qingshui Temple, originally built during the Qianlong era of the Qing Dynasty, is a distinctive southern Fujian-style architectural complex and the largest Mazu Temple in Xiamen. Located beneath the flight path for Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport, it offers the striking sight of  modern passenger jets flying low above the red walls and upturned eaves of traditional southern Fujian architecture — a breathtaking scene known as "watching planes at an ancient temple." With plans to relocate Gaoqi Airport by the end of 2026, this unique view will soon become a lost memory.
