Shapowei has served as a shelter harbour since the Qing Dynasty and is also a "living museum" of the city's maritime culture. Having witnessed Xiamen's transformation from a Ming-Qing military port and the sole ferry crossing to Taiwan, to a century-old fishing port -  it has now reinvented itself as a trendy landmark where tradition and fashion blend.
