Xiamen Jimei Village’s Minnan-style Architecture: A Cultural Legacy

Jimei Village’s Minnan-style Architecture

The comprehensive complex integrating school and cultural education was founded in 1913 by Mr. Tan Kah Kee with his personal funds. It has been listed among the "First Heritage Architecture Projects of the 20th Century in China" and enjoys a high reputation. The academic village is dotted with Kah Kee-style buildings characterised by the unique “Western-style structures crowned with traditional Chinese roofs,” alongside well-preserved traditional Minnan dwellings. The buildings combine Chinese and Western styles and represent the typical architecture of the Minnan area, home to many overseas Chinese.
